What am I doing lately

A few months ago I was approached by a friend who is a Guide at the Rotorua Museum
she suggested I would make a good Docent ( Latin for Guide)
I thought about this for a few months, I did not go into it lightly.
Finally after many emails from Anne Sommerville ( Docent trainer)
and receiving details and training programme by post.
I finally decided to go along and see what was what.
The training is quite an intense 13 weeks, so it is not to be taken lightly.
This intake started training on 1st July
( there is no more trainings organised for a couple of years due to
enormous renovations and building taking place )
so I went along and registered.
thinking I would just see and make a final decision.....
But I was hooked on the first meeting,
we are into our 5th week now and I am loving it.
I have learnt so so much and am surprised how much I can retain
( I thought the old brain was full up already but no!)
We are a group of 13 and such diverse people from all walks of life and age.
We have been on field trips besides training at the museum itself.
This is a picture of us at the Buried Village it was actually freezing cold so we are a bit wrapped up, what a crew we look !!

I am sure we will wash up good, and look great in our dress code
when the time comes.

Update on the car

As you can see from this picture, this is not a white Tucson City sitting on my drive.
Can you believe that we need a new computer component in the Tucson and guess what the only one available in the southern hemisphere is in Aussie of course.
The Hyundai dealership have been great and keep calling me to let me know how things are progressing.
They have given me a car from the forecourt to drive around in, but the for sale advert on the windscreen is causing me to be a noticed person on the road.
When I park you can see every ones head turn to look at the car.
What is bothering me is what if someone asks me for details on the car or may be if I manage to sell it.
I did mention this to Shaun ( the dealer) he said " I would earn same commission as anyone else"
May be I should put it on Trade Me or Ebay.
So I have this 1 year old Getz Auto, low mileage, oneowner
1.4 engine and 4 airbags, heater and A/C
Give me a call

What our children remember

***************************************
I was reading Kathryn's blog today and picked this from her post
Quote
"When I was a little girl, I picked up the sewing bug from my mum.
She had always been sewing and embroidering for as long as I could remember.
She even did an evening class in sewing at one point
and got a little certificate etc, can't actually remember what the course was,
I was only 6 when she did it! But I do remember her going to college
and I even remember going to the college to see her there."

***********************************
It is amazing the facts that children don't understand
or remember correctly from their childhood.
I remember talking just a few years ago to my sisters about just this point.
There was an instance in our childhood they had the facts all wrong about.
I was 16 yrs old they were 8 & 6 years old
I remembered the occasion very well
with an older mind and had to put them straight.
So please let me put the record straight again
about this little certificate.
I actually attended Kidderminster Textile College in Worcester UK
in 1975/6 for 2 years to take
HND in Embroidery and Design
(Higher National Diploma)
this would give me a teaching diploma
I remember struggling to juggle school runs for Kathryn 6
and childcare for her brother Iain 4
to enable me to attend 3 days a week 9am to 3pm
at the time we were a one car family just like most couples at that period of life.
It was during the 2nd year that the job in Kuwait came on the scene
so the final part of the course was taken as distance learning
I regret so often that I was unable to use my qualification
and that I lost the opportunity to apply to no less
the Royal School of Embroidery London to join one of their courses.
"A Little Certificate indeed "

Continuing Car saga

I love this little guy just found him the other day
******************************
So the car saga
Sunday afternoon the manager of the local Hyundai Dealership arrived at the door
he bought lots of diagnostic equipment with him.
He spent 30 minutes fiddling and then took car for a drive he was gone ages.
On his return he said he could find no reason for all the trouble,
but would I please take it to the work shop Monday morning.
I duly did that today.
They gave me a very nice car from the forecourt
to drive around in for the morning.
On my return a mechanic had taken the car for a test drive
and WHEEEE!!!
it did the same trick for him.
Don't you hate it when something only plays up for you
and men look at you as though you are talking out the
top of your head because you are "only a woman"
and what would you know about the workings of a car
May be it is because we don't know the technical terms to say exactly what we mean.
So the car is still at the dealership and I have the courtsey car on my drive

So watch this space........

Happy Anniversary

Happy Anniversary
Today is Iain and Claire's wedding anniversary

Machine is in hospital

I have been using a small computerised
Brother Embroidery / sewing machine for 10 yrs
My machine is normally serviced here in Rotorua
The last time I was not happy with it on it's return
taking it back to them gave no satisfaction
so I have taken it to another service agent 100 kms away
who assures me it will be okay this time
So fingers crossed.

Oh! What a day

So, I collected the new car
immediately picked up Mhairi and Sheryl
and headed to the quilt show
All went well for about 50 kms
when driving through a built up area there was a
great " clunk" in the bowels of the car,
and it did not seem to be driving with any umph.
But we were with in 2 kms of the show
So I did not give it to much thought.

After leaving the show we headed to a Shopping centre
about 15 minutes away
just before we reached our destination
the car gave a lurch and "crunch" again
now a light came on asking
for a check to be carried out .. it lost "umph" again
so I pulled up and contacted Hyundai
who sent out a mechanic almost straight away.

The car had gone into " limp home mode" the reason for no "umph".
This would allow you to drive at very low speed.
The car was checked as much as possible
nothing was found to be causing the problem
so the battery was disconnected to reset the computer
I was told to keep going, so off we went
approx 60 kms to home.

No such luck with in 15 kms way out on the country roads
just passing the only built up area between there and home
it all happened again,
so another call to Hyundai.
Out came a different mechanic who said the car was sick
and should not be driven..

After a lot of conversation with Hyundai
who said they were not responsible to get us home.
I will leave you to imagine the conversation
We were finally given a courtesy car
arranged from the mechanics garage
and the car was up lifted on to a breakdown truck.

We drove back to Rotorua followed by the breakdown truck
and the car was finally put down on my drive at 7.30pm
we should have been back by at least 5pm.
So there it has to stay till Monday
and the Hyundai dealer will be out to see it.

A New Car

It is with great surprise I show you my new car, the idea of a new car was born on last Tuesday and Saturday morning ( Today) I pick up a brand new Hyundai Tucson City.

My elderly Mitsubishi RVR was beginning to cause problems and costing to much, so sorry, it had to go so I can have at least 5 years worry free motoring.

After picking up the car, a couple of friends and I went across the Tauranga to visit the Quilt Show there, we had a great time and enjoyed the show... Please log in again tomorrow I have a story to tell about our day.
